Your mortgage interest deduction is at risk!

The Oregon Legislature recently attempted to pin homeowners with a massive income tax hike by reducing or even eliminating the home mortgage interest deduction from their state taxes. Fortunately, this scheme was defeated in the House of Representatives.

But this issue could come back again over the next couple of months. This attempt was, after all, just one of the proposals floating around the Legislature that would have reduced or even eliminated the home mortgage interest deduction for Oregon homeowners.

Other attempts could follow.

And if they do, we’ll need Oregonians to make their voices heard – just like last November, when nearly a million Oregon voters said loud and clear: “Protect Our Homes!” by voting Yes on Measure 79. Oregonians sent a clear message then to lawmakers to stop putting homeownership even further out of reach. And they may need to do it again should the Legislature make more attempts to reduce or eliminate the home mortgage interest deduction.
